Well, I am back with my volume 2 of False Facts You Probably Believe.
“Falsehood flies and truth comes limping after it”
1. Bulls are enraged by Red
If you have read my volume 1, you know my answer already. No man, they don’t.
You might have heard the phrase “Red rag to a bull” but in the real world, it’s all the excreta of a bull. Well, cattle’s have dichromatic vision meaning they see the world in grayscale so for them, red is no different than green or yellow, so it’s not in the color it’s in the motion.
Trust me next time try waving a blue flag to a bull, you will know I am always right.
2. Lightning Never Strikes The Same Place Twice
Well, it does and twice is an understatement. In fact, if lightning likes a spot she returns quite often.
And also, this is the same reasons people rely on conductors on top of tall buildings, some of the popular tall landmarks around the world often get staked around 50 to 100 times a year.
Good thing, you can now play out in a thunderstorm.
3. Eating Before Swimming Leads To Cramps And Drowning
Wrong again, well this is one of the oldest remaining cautionary tales there is. People believe if there is food in your body, blood moves towards your stomach risking your hands and limbs to seize due to lack of blood circulation.
Now the thing is the logic might sound logical but our human body doesn’t work that simply, so you need to be swimming at an Olympic level after consuming a banquet to exert any real pressure on your body. So, unless you are Michael Phelps you are not in an actual danger.
Interesting fact: less than 1% of all drowning occurs after dining.
4. Goldfish Have Terrible Memory
According to the myths, goldfish have a terrible memory you know the small head small brain concept. People believe their memories are around 3 to 5 seconds, just like the plot to Ghajini.
Well, these facts are all wrong, a researcher from Sydney’s Macquarie University found out based on more than a decade of observation that our little goldfish is smarter than what it’s credited for. They retain environmental information shapes colors and sounds for over a year.
Yes, over a year. That’s over Five Million times more than what you thought.
Shame on you all Judging a fish based on its head size.
5. Bats Are Blind
Or as blind as a bat, stupid idioms they are never correct.
Well bats, I mean the flying rats, those things are always uglier that what you remember.
Despite all that, they are pretty cool being the only flying mammal, and their importance to our lives.
Ps: you can know more about them from my article on bats.
So back to bats they are also the inspiration to one of the coolest superheroes of all time “The Batman”, they are a lot of things but blind, though.
Bats are not even little bit blind but they can see up to three times better than humans.
Just because they hunt at the night and live in dark cave they are not blind stop assuming things.
So again, shame on you humans judging animals based on their sleep patterns.
Bonus: Everest is the tallest mountain in the world
Nope, not even this is true. It’s more of a matter of perspective actually.
This one is kinda interesting so pay attention.
Everest has the highest altitude of any mountain something around 8850 meters above the sea level. But considering the actual height which is the height from the base of the mountain to the top of the mountain, it loses to Mauna Kea which is 10100 meters with a gigantic volume of 3200 cubes.
Sadly people don’t appreciate it as its 60% below the sea level.
So that’s the list. Have, fun everybody.
