Last year Arrow received major backlash from fans due to killing of an integral character of Green Arrow’s universe – Black Canary aka Laurel Lance. The introduction of magic in the universe had already affected the show’s ratings, and by killing Laurel Lance, the EPs made sure Season 4 of Arrow would go down as the worst season of any show in Arrowverse.

However, they realized their mistakes and for Season 5, they decided to go back to the roots. Thanks to that, the Season 5 is turning out to be the best season of Arrow and the best of all the four shows. Each episode is better than the previous and the mid-season finale simply knocked it out of the park. If you haven’t watched the episode yet, then it’s time for you to turn back – major SPOILERS AHEAD! You have been warned!

Arrow creatives have finally fixed their last mistake – Laurel Lance is Alive! In the last few minutes of Arrow S05E09, Oliver meets Laurel in Arrowcave where she greets him “Hi Ollie!” Just when you thought Arrow had delivered its finest episode in a long time, they dropped the Laurel bomb. Seeing Laurel alive and kicking would certainly come up as a surprise for casual viewers, but people following Arrow closely knew this day coming for long. The news of Laurel Lance actress Katie Cassidy’s contract renewal had spread like a wild fire a few months back. She has signed a deal to appear through all the four Arrowverse shows.

However, being a pessimist guy, I had expected Laurel Lance to appear in flashbacks only like previous week’s Dominator crossover. But imagine my surprise when I heard the news of Katie Cassidy being series regular in back half of Arrow Season 5. Before you jump on me saying Laurel Lance is hallucination Oliver is experiencing due to mental torture by Prometheus in the episode, read following excerpts of Stephen Amell from Facebook Live video

Obviously, people don’t just come back from the dead, so there has to be some sort of vetting process to make sure it actually is Laurel because the group has seen some peculiar things

The excerpt clearly indicates that Laurel is not a hallucination as other team members also see her. Hence, I examine here 5 ways how Laurel Lance is alive in Arrowverse.

1. Lazarus Pit –

DC fans know there are more than one Lazarus Pit in DC universe. So, even though the league’s Lazarus Pit was destroyed, there are many others that can be used to bring Laurel back. This theory is supported by the fact that we are going to see Talia Al Ghul in upcoming episodes and in the video, Amell has hinted that she may have a role in Laurel’s resurrection.

2. Fake Death –

I had always been suspicious about the way Laurel died in Season 4. The doctor had assured she was well out of danger and then all of a sudden, she suffers cardiac arrest? Does an arrow in abdomen cause embolism in the heart? Either the doctor earned his degree from IIN, or Laurel faked her death. Remember, she even got time for a little pep talk with Oliver. I don’t know about you, but this sounds too convenient to me. Quentin was in crosshairs of Darhk due to his betrayal and so to save him, she may have orchestrated her death with help from say, Nyssa Al Ghul. She may have been in hiding all this time. But now, since Oliver has been beaten – physically, psychologically and morally – she has come out of hiding to support and help him. Laurel has not only been a symbol of hope for Star City, but also for Oliver. And right now, he needs her the most.

3. Black Siren –

When was the last time Team Flash checked their Star Labs prison for captured metas? Never I think. If you go by Marc Guggenheim’s earlier statements regarding Earth-1 Laurel Lance staying dead, then there is good chance that the Laurel we saw could be Black Siren/Earth-2 Laurel Lance. However, this theory has one major flaw – Black Siren doesn’t have any motive to disguise herself as Laurel Lance of Earth-1. Moreover, unlike Barry, Oliver doesn’t have the habit of revealing his identity to everyone and so her figuring out Oliver Queen is Green Arrow and the location of Arrowcave is simply impossible.

4. Time Travel Shenanigans on DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow –

Now this theory is far-fetched, but still possible. Though it hasn’t happened yet, if Damien Darhk dies in Legends of Tomorrow, then entire Arrow Season 4 will be erased from existence (good riddance) and Laurel would be alive. Sarah has been able to successfully curb her wrath, but seeing Martin Stein’s time aberration, she may get tempted in future to save her sister. Or better still, Damien Darhk does something very horrible, like timeline devastating stuff, and Legends are left with no choice but to kill him. Or maybe Reverse Flash kills him later for something. In any case, Laurel Lance will be back from dead. However, doing so will require a crossover episode with Arrow to explain everyone about this timeline altering event, but until now, there hasn’t been talk of any such crossover in back half of the shows.

5. Flashpoint –

Everything is possible if you have a timeline screwing speedster at your disposal. While the events of Flashpoint didn’t affect Arrow as much as The Flash, there is a good possibility that it affected some other things that ultimately lead to Laurel’s resurrection. Perhaps due to Flashpoint, the Lazarus Pit was never destroyed in new timeline and that brought back Laurel. And guess what, this theory has been CONFIRMED by Arrow’s EP Wendy Mericle –

Episode 510 definitely, our midseason premiere. Keep your eyes out for that. We’re so excited about getting to work with her again and her willingness to come back… I can definitely tell you that there’s a way we’re going to bring her back and she’s going to be alive and well. And Flashpoint might have a little bit to do with that.

So, guys these are 5 ways how Laurel Lance is back on Arrow. Are you excited to see Laurel Lance alive? Do you agree with this list? Did we miss out any other way? Comment below, let us know. Arrow Season 5 will be returning January 20th, 2017.
