The first trailer for David Leitch’s Atomic Blonde is out and it’s jam-packed with mind-blowing action. For those who don’t know, David Leitch was the co-director of 2014’s John Wick and his action choreography from his previous film is reminiscent in his new film Atomic Blonde starring academy award winner Charlize Theron.

Atomic Blonde is going to be a spy thriller set during the Cold War. Charlize Theron plays the role of an MI6 agent Lorraine Broughton. After the murder of an MI6 operative, Lorraine Broughton gets sent to Berlin where she teams up with the city’s station chief David Percival (played by the extremely talented James McAvoy) to extract some extremely sensitive information for the agency while eliminating threats in a very John Wick-ish style action.

The movie cast also includes stars like Toby Jones, Saul Goodman, and Sofia Boutella. The movie is actually adapted from a graphic novel called The Coldest City by Antony Johnston.

Watching an action movie with a female lead who kicks a lot of asses is gonna be a fun ride if it’s anything like the John Wick movies. John Wick itself was an action driven movie rather than a plot-driven tale. So David Leitch can easily top that with Atomic Blonde by putting in an intriguing story while using his signature action style to move the plot forward.

If this movie works out well then it will also approve David Leitch’s involvement in one other movie everyone’s talking about, Deadpool 2. Atomic blonde is a really great opportunity for David Leitch to prove how well he can work on a comic book movie. While John Wick was very much like a comic book flick because of its interesting world-building and characters, it wasn’t something that was recreated from a different source material. So how well he taps into the source material of Atomic Blonde will bring a lot of support for him as the director of Deadpool sequel.
