Bastian Schweinsteiger, 32, has just signed for Chicago Fire and is all set to add another chapter to his glittering career. The Major League Soccer side was monitoring the world cup winner closely for some time and has finally made the move. The club website made the transfer official & the switch is just subject to a medical.
Bastian joined the 20-time Premier League champions back in 2015 after spending his entire career at Bayern. He got a warm welcome as everyone expected some glittering performances from the 2014 world cup winner despite the German’s ongoing injury woes. But sadly his career never really took off. After Mourinho signed, his appearances became rather sporadic. His exclusion from the squad raised some questions but both the parties handled the situation efficiently. As the stats suggest, the legend failed to recapture the magic we’re so used to seeing.
Bastian Schweinsteiger for Manchester United:
Appearances: 35 ( PL: 18, UCL: 8, UEL: 3, FA cup: 4, League cup: 2)
Goals: 2 (Leicester, Wigan)
Assists: 1 (Wigan)
Despite having a rocky couple of years at Manchester, Bastian was classy as ever in his final interview with the club outlet,
“I have enjoyed working with the manager, the players and staff here and wish them all the best in the future. But I have to reserve special thanks to the United fans – whose support has been a very special part of my time in Manchester.
He also “I was delighted to be part of the squad that won the FA Cup for them last season and will always remember their energy and their passion. Now is the right time for me to start a new chapter in Chicago and I am looking forward to it.”
Like Bastian, we are also excited to see him dazzle in his new club. Chicago Fire hasn’t seen much success lately and a signing of this magnitude can surely turn things around. MLS just added another global star to their ranks and gave us another reason to tune into the most up-and-coming league.
