The DC Extended Universe until now has got the casting choices for their titular superheroes spot on. Henry Cavill, Ezra Miller, Gal Gadot even Ray Fisher and Jason Momoa shine in their roles as members of The Justice League. But the choice for the role of Batman was where the Warner Bros. absolutely nailed it. Michael Keaton who? Ben Affleck is the guy who really managed to portray the true essence of the Batman on screen. But rumors of his old age being an impediment spread like wildfire until he decided to step down. If past rumors are true, Affleck will neither be Batman nor will he have any role in the direction of the Batman movie.
But you know what they say – It ain’t over until the Fat Lady sings. Ben Affleck still has a fighting chance of continuing as DCEU’s sole Caped Crusader in future DC movies. Will he stay Bruce Wayne or Will he be given the pink slip? Why don’t we just listen to what Affleck has to say on this matter…
When asked by Daily Sabah whether Ben Affleck could return as the Dark Knight, he had this to say:
“I want to direct a Batman movie,” Affleck says, “and I never got a script that I was happy with, so they are starting over and writing another script. And right now, I think a lot of different possibilities I think for the way the DC Universe could go, and I will just follow my interests in pursing that. And I know that I love working with this group of people, and it was a real joy for me to make this movie.”
Matt Reeves is currently at the director’s chair for directing the Batman movie to be released in the year 2019. He took over the reins from Ben Affleck himself when Warner Bros. Studios decided the latter’s Oscar award winning expertise was not enough for a Batman movie script. Ben Affleck and Geoff Johns had already written much of the story when Reeves decided to perform a complete makeover of the script.
Ben is still open to the idea of directing a DCEU movie, presumably Batman. He is not ecstatic enough for returning as Bruce Wayne. But his inputs could be critical for his replacement to truly essay the role. Currently Jon Hamm and Jake Gyllenhaal are the two most favored replacements for Ben Affleck’s Batman. The former is a fan favorite while the latter is reportedly the Studio’s favorite.
Ben Affleck currently stars as the Batman in the Justice League movie alongside Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Ciarán Hinds as Steppenwolf, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon.
He still has one other planned DCEU movie under his belt. Affleck will play the Batman in DCEU’s Flashpoint movie.
