Henry Cavil starring as Superman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

According to reports, Warner Bros. wanted to sign the actor for a cameo in Shazam! However, the negotiations broke down leading to Cavil’s departure from the DCEU. Cavill’s most recently appeared in Mission: Impossible – Fallout alongside Tom Cruise. It should also be noted that Cavill has recently landed titular role in Netflix’s The Witcher.

Following Cavill’s departure, Warner Bros. has shifted its focus away from the Man of Steel to the Girl of Steel Kara Zor-El, the cousin of Kal-El, otherwise known as Supergirl. The movie will be an origin story for Supergirl. However, no news as of yet has been confirmed by Warner Bros.

Henry Cavill starred as Superman in three of the outings – Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. Barring the Man of Steel, none of them fared well with critics and audience alike. While Batman v Superman was criticized for being too dark and gloomy, Justice League became notorious for the famous mustache scandal. With the two leads Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill leaving, the fate of DCEU seems bleak.
