When the trailer for Avengers: Infinity War was released, everyone knew that Captain America was going to get a new shield. He abandoned the original one after the events of Captain America: Civil War. And with the threat of Thanos looming over the horizon, the least they could do is “get that man a shield”. He is getting one. Thanks to a new toy leak, we now have the picture of Cap’s New Infinity War shield. But what has got all the fans riled up is – will this be permanent? What about the original, physics defying round one? The question on everyone’s mind right now regarding Captain America’s Infinity War shield – Should we be worried?

Fret not folks!! This new Shield is not permanent gear. Cap will be getting a new shield that is similar to the one he is known to have used previously in the MCU movies.

Captain America abandoned his shield after his beautiful bromance with Tony stark came to an end after the whole ‘Bucky killed my Mom and Dad’ debacle. After Bucky and Cap defeat Iron Man, Tony claims Cap is not worthy of the Shield. Captain America leaves the Shield near him and walks away. In the Infinity War trailer, Cap is seen fighting without a Shield.

Captain America’s shield is special because of the metal it is made out of. Vibranium is one of the toughest and most versatile metals on Earth. It  can absorb any amount of vibrations thrown at it making its wilder completely invulnerable to all forms of physical attacks. With Cap in Wakanda, the country that sits on the largest and only known deposit of Vibranium on the face of the Earth, it is for sure he will be getting a new Shield. The shield will be designed by Shuri, Black Panther’s sister who is rumored to be smarter than even Tony Stark himself. Expect Cap’s new shield to have a lot of tricks up its sleeve when it arrives.

So where does that leave the Original Shield making a comeback? In Spiderman: Homecoming, Tony Stark hinted at making a new Vibranium Shield. There are possibly two reasons for doing so – he is either planning a reconciliation with Captain America or he is going to help pass on the mantle of the Super Soldier to someone else since Cap has clearly forfeited it. With most of the core actors’ contracts coming to an end, the latter reason seems the most probable one. But we still hope Cap will reclaim his Original Shield for one last time to beat the shit out of Thanos when the Mad Titan sets foot on Earth on May 4th, 2018.
