Specsavers County Championship Division Two, Worcestershire v Northamptonshire at Worcester, Aug 23-26, 2016
Northants’ tailender Chad Anthony Barrett came in at No. 10 when the team was already standing strong at 361/8, but that didn’t stop him from going out and scoring his maiden century(114*), which is the highest score by a Northants No.10, in his 2nd First-Class match. It was certainly more than just a century for the County Championship debutant.
For those to whom the name CA Barrett is new, he made his FC debut in 2014 vs Sri Lanka in a Tour Match where he remained wicket-less (Northampton shire v Sri Lankan’s at Northampton, Jun 5-8, 2014|Scorecard.) To make his place back to the Northants side, Barrett played Second XI cricket for six First-Class County games. His dedication finally paid off yesterday and he was evidently elated. Barrett told BBC Radio Northampton.
“I couldn’t have wished for a better Championship debut. I’ve had to wait two years for my opportunity. It was a decent wicket and I had to make the most of it. Two years waiting to play a second first-class game (the first was against Sri Lanka) is a long time. You think to yourself ‘Am I going to play another one? When I got the nod, I thought when I have a bat or a bowl, I’ve just got to show what I can do.”
After his unbeaten 114 in the first innings, he took his maiden FC wicket by removing Worcestershire batsman Joe Clarke.
