Back in 2014, NBC aired the first season of Constantine which instantly became a fan favourite, only to be cancelled soon afterwards. Due to low ratings, NBC decided to drop the show despite numerous online petitions to ensure its continuation. Surprisingly, CW’s Arrow decided to revive the quick-witted magician in one of its episode (S04E05;Haunted). The appearance of Constantine in the Arrow-verse was a pleasant surprise for the fans, but the ‘dabbler’ of dark arts needed more recognition than a mere episode. After almost two long years, the chain-smoking demonologist is back with his own show – an animated series!
For those who didn’t watch the show (The blood is on your hands too!), or have absolutely no idea about Constantine, don’t worry! The brand new animated series doesn’t require the sacrifice of your ‘precious’ time on its altar for its continuity. With Matt Ryan reprising his live-action role to voice the foul-mouthed magician, CW has added Constantine to its previous animated roster of Vixen and The Ray.
The full synopsis for the animated show is given below.
“Armed with an arcane knowledge of the dark arts and a wicked wit, he fights the good fight,” reads the official show description. “With his soul already damned to hell, he’ll do whatever it takes to protect the innocent. With the balance of good and evil on the line, Constantine uses his skills to face the supernatural terrors that threaten our world and send them back where they belong. After that, who knows… maybe there’s hope for him and his soul after all.”
Like previous CW’s animated shows, Constantine‘s air-time will probably range from five to seven minutes. The animated show will have ten episodes and will air in 2018.
With some best minds at work, Constantine is produced by David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight Trilogy, Man of Steel), Greg Berlanti (The Flash, Arrow, Supergirl) and Sarah Schechter (Riverdale, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Blindspot). Written by J.M. DeMatteis (Justice League Dark, Batman vs. Robin) and with Doug Murphy (Justice League Action, Young Justice) at the helm, Constantine is all set to charm the fans into his macabre and grisly world of demons, dark arts and street smarts.
