Warner Bros. has big plans for DC. And we are not just talking about the Justice League. With Aquaman, Wonder Woman 2, the unnamed Flashpoint movie, and The Batman standalone film already in the pipeline, audiences are set to be wowed with yet another DC movie. Say hello to Deathstroke. Our very own one eyed assassin is getting his own show people.
Up until now, Ben Affleck’s tweet all but confirmed the news of Joe Manganiello as Deathstroke making an appearance in the DCEU. While fans expected it to be the Justice League news later confirmed him to be a part of the upcoming standalone-Batman movie.

With Matt Reeves at the helm, the script of The Batman is supposed to be having a complete overhaul. No Deathstroke in The Batman is a viable possibility now. Yet there is still a sliver of hope for the titular anti-hero.
The Wrap confirms Gareth Evans, the guy who gave us the action-packed blockbuster The Raid is in talks to direct a stand-alone Deathstroke movie. A release date hasn’t been finalised but the news will be a welcome treat for many a comic book fans.
For those of you sorry losers who still can’t figure out who Deathstroke is and why is he such a big deal let me explain it to ya. Think of Captain America. Cool patriotic guy with a penchant for heroism and kindness, representing the best of human spirit. Now take that kindness, generosity and selflessness and throw it in the bin. Fill the guy with hate, anger and absolute dont-give-a-fuck attitude for collateral damage. I give you Deathstroke.
Like the Cap, he too was a soldier that volunteered for experimentation. Both attained the zenith of human physical condition. But while the former became the world’s finest citizen, the latter became the world’s finest mercenary. Deathstroke has been a regular foe of the Teen Titans, first appearing in “New Teen Titans” No. 2. He has made numerous appearances in the crticially acclaimed Teen Titans animated series. Manu Bennett donned the mask as Slade Wilson in Arrow season 2, season 5 and most recently in season 6.
Suicide Squad proved its not only the superheroes that can make money. If done right, even the supervillains can too become cash cows. After the fun-filled, ‘feel-good’ route the recent DCEU movies have taken, it sure will be a gamble for Warner Bros. to make a movie on such a dark, gritty character.
What story-line will the movie follow? Is Joe Manganiello gonna be DCEU’s Deathstroke or will someone else take the helm? Can they really pull it off? I sure hope they do 🙂
Fun Fact: Deadpool, everyone’s favorite “Merc with a mouth” is actually a rip-off of Deathstroke 😉
