If you’ve not read about ‘The Irishman’ yet, it’s high time you did. Martin Scorsese’s next mob movie ‘The Irishman’ is probably going to be one of the biggest events of 2019. Martin has grouped in a star-studded cast of Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, Al Pacino, Harvey Keitel and Bobby Cannavale. That’s right, a Martin-Pacino combination is finally happening and fans are not able to hold in their excitement. Meanwhile, this is Robert De Niro’s ninth movie and Joe Pesci’s seventh movie with Martin. De Niro and Pesci have worked with each other six times so far and the duo has always seen to create magic on screen. On the other hand, De Niro and Pacino have shared screen space only twice so far, in Heat (1995) and Righteous Kill (2008). While they were both in Godfather 2, it wasn’t until Heat that they both appeared in the same scene. Basically, to sum it all up, this is every mob genre fan’s dream.
Martin’s gangster-drama, ‘The Irishman’ is actually based on a true story. The movie is about Frank ‘The Irishman’ Sheeran, played by Robert De Niro, and his involvement in the murder of Jimmy Hoffa, played by Al Pacino, in 1975. It’s been called the biggest hit in mob history. While it is still unclear who Pesci is playing, some say he’ll be portraying a character called Russell Buffalino. Russell’s contribution to the storyline is still unknown. Robert De Niro who is now 73 years old will be made to look 30 years younger using CGI techniques. This has been used previously in ‘The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button’.
In February 2017, Netflix bought rights for ‘The Irishman’ from Paramount for $105 million. This follows how Scorsese’s previous project ‘Silence’ flopped at the Box Office and so as to avoid risk, Paramount and SFX Entertainment agreed to sell the worldwide rights to Netflix.‘The Irishman’ is slated to release in 2019 and shooting is rumored to start in August. This will however only commence after ‘The Devil In The White City’, Scorsese’s next with Leonardo Di Caprio has finished shooting.
