The recent box-office failure of Justice League has left many fans wondering about the future of the DCEU. One of the major movies of the DCEU is Green Lantern Corps, and the wobbling franchise has added more woes to the future of the Emerald Knights. But according to David S. Goyer, who is co-writing the script has assured the fans that the movie is still in works.
The decision to include a Green Lantern movie was taken back in October, 2014. Later, the movie was renamed to Green Lantern Corps, which suggests that the movie won’t be focusing on a single protagonist, unlike the disastrous Green Lantern (2011) starring Ryan Reynolds. David S. Goyer and Justin Rhodes were hired to pen the script on January 2017, and a release date of July 24, 2020 was set.
David S. Goyer is currently attached to another DCTV project, Krypton. In the winter press of Television Critics Association, Goyer, who was present to promote the upcoming TV series Krypton shed some light on the future of the Green Lantern Corps. In the ceremony, Goyer confirmed that the movie is still in works, but also acknowledging the uncertainty surrounding the future of the DCEU.
I don’t know. Who knows, especially with what’s currently going on with the DC universe? There’s obviously a whole recalibration happening with that right now.
The impeding uncertainty surrounding the DCEU cannot be termed as another rumor. The Box-Office collection of Justice League failed to match the expectations, and it has severely impacted the upcoming movies. Recently, Warner Bros. cancelled two stand-alone movies featuring Deadshot and Lobo. But so far, the slate for the upcoming movies has remained unchanged.
Though further details are yet to be revealed about the Green Lantern Corps movie, it has been confirmed that the movie will feature the two most popular Green Lanterns, Hal Jordan and John Stewart.
