The Justice League Cyborg’s origin story is getting a fresh makeover. The much awaited Justice League movie is about a month away. Yet we already see major deviations of character arcs and story lines from their comic book counterparts. The Flash is still a student in Justice League. Now we know even Victor Stone aka Cyborg’s origin story in the movie is set to begin anew.

Thanks to our Filipino brother CeddieRiccky and the miracle that is Twitter, now we have intel regarding Cybrog’s origin story and how it differs from the comic books.

These photos belong to a promotional exhibit in the Philippines held recently for the Justice League. The promotional materials give character bios for each superhero. Among them features Cyborg’s origin story and we quote:

Part man, part machine, Victor Stone is a former star athlete at Gotham City University. After a horrific car accident nearly cost him his life, he was saved when his father, scientist Silas Stone, used an Apokolitian Mother Box to reconstruct his body. In the process, Silas turned Victor into a human computer, organic with biomechatronic body parts. In other words, a Cyborg.

Car accident fellas. Cyborg already had the unique privilege of having two origin stories already in the comics. The original one was altered when a certain speedster decided to be a sissy and change the timeline(Dammit Barry 🙁 !!!). The pre-Flashpoint Cyborg’s origin story involved his parents doing experiments on him until one day one of their experiments backfires. A monster unleashes chaos that kills Victor’s mother and gravely injures him. Thus leaving no choice for his father but to turn his son into the mechanical miracle he is today.

The second story takes place after Flashpoint and is pretty much the same. The only difference is the monster is replaced with a Father Box. And now DCEU has taken a bold step replacing the Father Box with a car accident.

In the new DCEU version, Victor Stone is a rising football star who meets with a fatal Car accident that leaves nothing but a husk of a body behind. Victor barely survives the crash. And as seen in Dawn of Justice, Silas Stone uses a Mother Box to ‘repair’ his body back. While this origin story certainly doesn’t do justice to the comics and is not as extreme, the viewers will find it much more relatable.

The changes may sound trivial for now but only after the movie hits the theaters will we know how much of these changes affect the plot. And most importantly why was Cyborg’s origin story changed in the first place.

When will these questions be answered??

The only way to know would be when Justice League hits the theaters. Directed by Zack Snyder and starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller and Ray Fisher, Justice League releases on November 17, 2017.

Hold on until then 😉
