Debates are our favourite thing. Humans love to debate and there have been some quite spectacular ones so far. Now, There have been many debates in the sporting world or more precisely the footballing world as well but none so as intense and as debatable as to determine that who is the greatest football player of all time. Opinions vary so much so that some people can’t even think of the greatest two. This mainly happens because of the fact that there are an awful lot of contenders for this prize crown. People love players from their national team, favourite club, players from yesteryears etc. and this all results in a chaotic situation and the dilemma remaining intact.

But I think I might have the penultimate Solution to the problem as to name the greatest player of all time and according to my knowledge of football and my research done the greatest football player of all time is Lionel Messi. Out of all the absolute legends of the game, the likes of Pele, Diego Maradona, Johan Cruyff, Zinedine Zidane, Michel Platini, Ronaldinho, Cristiano Ronaldo, Gerd Muller and the list goes on and on and on, I have picked Lionel Messi as the greatest Player of all time.

Now when you talk about an individual player and the criteria to define the G.O.A.T ( greatest of all time) it purely depends on the sheer ability and talent of the individual to the play the sport effortlessly or rather flawlessly and at times doing things that were considered impossible by many before it was done. To do things that would necessitate people to think that “how’d he do that” and that too continuously and constantly.

From humble beginnings in Argentina and growing up with a disease known as the “Growth Hormone Disorder” to coming to Barcelona, Spain for its treatment and then signing a football club contract on a napkin and then staying with that same club to win numerous trophies and accolades and becoming its all-time top scorer surely this lad has come a long way.

He has won all the awards there are to be won as an individual player and all the club honours but hasn’t had yet managed to win the world cup or the Ćopa America with Argentina and that is where the credibility of declaring him the G.O.A.T comes in doubt as his critics make the point of him failing as a leader.

max-res.jpgBut that is where you need to define the very definition of the G.O.A.T because according to me the greatest of all time should be a player whose very presence on the field should send chills down the spines of the opponents. His very ability to turn the game upside down and to win matches single-handedly should be spot on but more so he should be a natural born talent rather than a trained product. The attributes like Team-play, Versatility, Dribbling etc are the things that should define the G.O.A.T.

lionel-messi.jpgMessi may not be the best captain or best leader but when it comes to doing things that no other player can and that too on a continuous basis, Messi leaves all others behind and that is why in my opinion Lionel Andres Messi is the greatest football player of all time.
