When I say Old man Logan, fans would be quick to recall the phrase ‘One Last Time’. As Mark Millar and Steve McNivan announced the comic series no one batted an eye. As the comic book hit the stores everyone swooned over the bleak and helpless world where hope took the form of an aging man with claws of rusted steel. Unknowingly McNivan and Millar had created a bestseller. James Mangold’s legendary blockbuster Logan, with the titular character played by none other than Hugh Jackman is loosely based on this storyline.

What many fans don’t know is that Old Man Logan wasn’t a one man show. Well not in the comics anyway. In the comic book storyline Logan has a companion and wingman helping him in his cross-country wild goose chase. Enter Clint Barton a.k.a Hawkeye.

Well get ready to say ‘One More Time’. The New York Daily News reports that Marvel is planning a 12-part Old Man Hawkeye miniseries. The series is to be set 5 years before Old Man Logan and features a younger Clint Barton before he lost his eyesight in the Old Man Logan series.

The world of Old Man Logan is a truly intriguing one. A hopeless, godless world where the villains rule with an iron fist. No heroes to oppose them as most of them are dead or in hiding. Brutality and sheer violence has turned the world into a wasteland. Vacation anyone??

The series is to be penned by Daily News reporter Ethan Sacks and illustrated by Marco Checchetto. The series aims to tell the story of a soon to be senile Hawkeye as he embarks on a final mission to write some wrongs. As the New York Daily News quotes Sacks –

“In this story, he’s losing his vision and that sort of forces him to confront something really horribe that happened to him personally 45 years ago, and go on his own hero’s journey while he still can.”

Hawkeye has always been cool. The way Miller made a blind Hawkeye look more badass on print in O.L.G  made him look even cooler. That was when he was just a blind guy with a bow. In the prequel, cataracts haven’t bested him yet. Think of the fucking possibilities!!!!!

From what we hear, Hawkeye isn’t acting out of compulsion in this series. His clock is ticking. It’s a now or never kinda situation pushing him into action. Hawkeye is rumored to face off against a variety of villains including the menacing Venom as he embarks on his journey. Journey through a landscape no one knows what to expect of.

In Old Man Logan, Clint marries Peter Parker’s daughter. Their daughter Ashley Barton is a twisted kid with a soul as wicked as a demon. Anyone remember how effortlessly she took out Kingpin. RIP baldy 🙁 . Maybe the Hawkeye prequel will explore the father daughter relationship in depth. One of the most prominent O.L.G series revelations was Hawkeye’s wish to start another superhero team to salvage the wastelands from chaos. Perhaps Old Man Hawkeye will explore Clint’s earlier attempts at forming a Neo-Avengers team for his lost crusade.

45 year old grudge, long-ass journey into the unknown, demons from the past, and an old guy with a bow and arrow. What’s not to like?!?!?! Or as Marvel Editor-in-Chief Alex Alonso Puts it

“Old Man Hawkeye is, on its own terms, an epic story.”

When does it arrive you ask?

Old Man Hawkeye hits the stores in January 2018. Excited? Welcome to the club mate 🙂
