WhatsApp recently rolled out an upgrade which received a lot of backlash from the users. Apparently, the app added a new status feature which was a copy of Snapchat’s Story feature; the old permanent text status was removed and a new tab for Status was added in which a pic, gif, or video could be added and made visible to your contacts for 24 hours only. Losing the old status and having this new Snapchat like feature was not at all pleasant because it affected the image of WhatsApp being a simple subtle messaging app. After several weeks of pulling through this bogus feature, WhatsApp is finally bringing the old WhatsApp status feature back.

WhatsApp brought back their old status feature but now it is listed as a description feature and it will be in the profile settings, listed under the “About and Phone Number section”. Although this doesn’t mean that the new WhatsApp status feature will be removed, it is still going to be there to interrupt and annoy you during your chatting period. Still, we can let bygones be bygones and be happy that the old feature is back.

The new update is rolled out for the beta users only for now but since it is obviously getting a good response from the users, there is no doubt that it will be soon out for regular users too. So hold on tight, everyone will get their WhatsApp status back.

We gotta talk about Mark Zuckerberg’s obsession with Snapchat though, he has added a Snapchat story like feature now in facebook messenger too. He needs to understand that adding the same feature in everything is not at all a good idea. He added this feature in WhatsApp and changed it from a simple messaging app to a full-fledged social media platform. I can’t say where his team is heading with these ideas but I hope Mark Zuckerberg doesn’t become an evil social media overlord soon.
