It seems Mukesh Ambani just can’t get enough laugh off of other telecom companies. After winning the lawsuit against Airtel over Okla ad fiasco, the chairman of Reliance Industries Limited has yet again made the battle for other telecom companies tougher. For over 100 odd million of Jio users, the ‘Happy New Offer’ offering Free Calls, Unlimited 4G Data and loads of Free Apps, was set to expire on 31st March 2017. But not anymore.

Not only has the registration for Jio Prime extended till 15th April 2017, but also, as part of the ‘Shagun’ offer, any recharge of Rs. 303 and above will get free complementary services for three months. The paid plan will start after the end of this period. Jio has also promised other exclusive summer offers exclusively for Prime users. In a letter addressed to Jio users, Mukesh Ambani wrote –

“Jio’s free service period is coming to an end. Users who do not recharge by the extended date will experience degradation and/ or discontinuation of services. In India, we have the fine tradition of shagun – offering gifts on auspicious occasions. For us, your first recharge is an auspicious moment. Therefore, we want to offer a token of our appreciation – the Jio Summer Surprise.”

Post expiry of ‘Happy New Offer’, many experts had speculated Jio’s customer base to fall sharply. However, till 30th March 2017, as many has 72 million customers have become Prime members. And with introduction of ‘Shagun’ offer, this number is expected to easily cross the 100 million mark.
