Final two fixtures to wrap up the first leg encounters of this year’s Champion League’s RO16. EPL holders, Leicester, travelled to Seville & Porto welcomed the Italian champions, Juventus.

Sevilla Vs Leicester City:

17th in the Premier League & just a couple of points over relegation zone, the season hasn’t gone particularly well for the holders. But they are still chasing the dream, the dream of lifting the biggest silverware in Europe. Sevilla found a spring in their steps under Sampaoli & are currently 3rd in La Liga. Europa legends are eyeing for the big one this time around. Leicester city played their best XI hoping to get that crucial away goal, Sevilla played a tweaked 4-1-3-2 with Jovetic & Correa up top. Sevilla had all of the ball in the early stages. with Leicester sitting pretty deep. Sarabia took the first shot which sailed over Schmeichel’s crossbar. Sevilla dominated all the possession & eventually got a penalty which Correa failed to convert. But 11 minutes later Pizjuan celebrated the first goal as Sarabia converted a brilliant curling cross from Escudero. 2 minutes later Jovetic rattled the bar from 40 yds out which easily could’ve been Sevilla’s second. Leicester were bested throughout the first half & were in dire need of regrouping. 12 minutes into the second half, Sevilla made it 2-0 thanks to some brilliant hold-up play from Jovetic & a clinical finish from Correa, who made up for his penalty earlier. Sevilla had Leicester on the ropes but much to Ranieri’s delight, Vardy snatched a crucial away goal for Leicester. Drinkwater came in from the left, squared a brilliant cross & Vardy wasn’t the one to miss. With a crucial away goal to take to the King Power the dream might live a little longer.

FC Porto Vs Juventus:

Estadio Do Dragao has one of the most intimidating atmospheres in Europe. And even an in-form Juventus(7 wins) had a tough task in hand. Porto were also looking sharp as ever after winning their last 6 matches. Porto started the match brightly, applying some early pressure on the Juventus back line & dominated possession in the early stages. But after weathering the early storm, Juve found their feet & started taking the game to the hosts. Khedira’s driving run through the middle caused all kinds of trouble for Porto & almost pulled it back for Higuain. 25 minutes in, Telles picked up a card for Porto & doubled it 2 mins later. Porto down to 10 with more than 60 minutes to play. An already confident Juve side now had more reasons to believe. Porto looked helpless but still somehow managed to keep the tie alive. Deep into the second half, the substitute Pjaca picked up Dybala’s stray pass deflected off Layun & made no mistake slotting it first time. Dani Alves came on for Lichsteiner, and a minute later he was on the scoresheet. He latched onto Sandro’s cross, chested it down & tucked home a finish. 2-0! Pjaca & Alves came off the bench to seal the match for the Bianconeris. A comfortable scoreline for the Italian champions which should see them through to the next round.
