Mark Zuckerberg must have a To-Do list for becoming Tony Stark. Become a billionaire – Check. Buy Tony Stark’s sweat shirt from Iron Man 1 – Check. Develop Jarvis AI – Check. Create Iron Man suit – Pending. Probably 2017 is going to be the year where we finally get real life Tony Stark. Way to go Mark, way to go!

Jokes apart, Mark Zuckerberg’s latest side project (as he calls it) packs quite a punch. Earlier this year, Zuckerberg revealed he was dedicating his year to making a home AI butler based on Tony Stark’s Jarvis in the Iron Man films. And boy! has he been successful. Zuckerberg’s Jarvis can control different functions like making toast, switching off light, facial recognition entry etc, with simple voice commands.  And if that wasn’t enough, Zuckerberg’s Jarvis can also entertain his daughter Priscilla as well as his family.

“My personal challenge for 2016 was to build a simple AI to run my home — like Jarvis in Iron Man. My goal was to learn about the state of artificial intelligence – where we’re further along than people realize and where we’re still a long ways off. So far this year, I’ve built a simple AI that I can talk to on my phone and computer, that can control my home, including lights, temperature, appliances, music and security, that learns my tastes and patterns, that can learn new words and concepts, and that can even entertain Max. It uses several artificial intelligence techniques. And included natural language processing, speech recognition, face recognition, and reinforcement learning, written in Python, PHP and Objective C.”

However, there’s a bit of a catch. The video is only a proof of concept. In reality, according to FastCo reportZuckerberg’s Jarvis is still far from complete. Morgan Freeman, who got the most number of votes for voicing Jarvis, has only recorded the lines that you hear in the video. The video is only a fun summary and not a live demo.

Whatever be the case, you have to give a standing ovation to a guy who, despite being CEO of a multi-billion dollar company, is still able to take out time from his busy schedule to work on personal projects. We hope that one day, someone truly invents Jarvis and enigmatic Freeman is around to lend his voice to the Jarvis. And by the way, Zuckerberg posted a note ‘Building Jarvis’ on his facebook account. Why don’t you intelligent fellas check them out here.
