Benedict Cumberbatch has had a brilliant year on the big screens in the form of Dr.Strange. However, one must return to more ‘serious’ matters as we draw closer to the debut of the fourth season of Sherlock. After a long torturous wait (something we Sherlock fans are accustomed to), the trailer for the forthcoming series is out. It is dark! Darker than we’ve every seen it before and the ego of Cumberbatch is a rather shaky figure when he stares, with two men on either side and says those three words one would never have expected to hear – “I love you”.
The video goes through a flurry of scenes showing all of Sherlock’s friends and Moriarty (of course) with the words “It’s not a game anymore” showing up. It certainly isn’t a game anymore. Each frame shows and emits anxiety while a 40-second trailer doesn’t help the cringing from within. The sad news, however, is that this could be the last season as Cumberbatch revealed to British GQ “It might be the end of an era. It feels like the end of an era, to be honest,” he said. “It goes to a place where it will be pretty hard to follow on immediately. We never say never on the show. ”
Well, that’s that! Let’s hope the season isn’t the last one but that doesn’t change the potential outcome of the show. January 1st will be the debut date and like the rest of you’ll, we can’t wait either.
